S.A.S. Nagar, June 26: “The youth is the treasure trove of every society and to save the young generation from the menace of drugs is the joint responsibility of us all and for this, concerted efforts are the need of the hour.” These views were expressed by the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Punjab, Balbir Singh Sidhu on the occasion of a State level function at the drug deaddiction and rehabilitation centre at Sector-66 on the occasion of International Anti Drugs and Illicit Trafficking Day.
He also said that the Punjab
Government is fully committed to the creation of a drugs free Punjab and has
waged a war against the drug menace which it is on the verge of winning. The
back of supply chain has been broken. It is only as a result of the untiring
efforts of the state government that till date 5.47 lakh patients have got
themselves registered at the deaddiction centres.
Coming to the other issues, the
minister said that it needs to be appreciated that the health workers are
working hard day in and day out to ensure the success of Mission Fateh. He also
exhorted the people to strengthen the hands of the state government in the
fight against corona virus. The minister also profusely lauded the efforts of
the ASHA Workers in making people aware about various safety precautions. He
also honoured ASHA workers with the Mission Fateh badges.
Throwing light on the efforts
of the Special Task Force (STF) in eradicating the drug menace, the I.G. Balkar
Singh Sidhu said that the single pointed agenda of the STF is to completely
eradication of the drug menace.
Among others present on the
occasion included the Political Secretary to minister, Harkesh Chand Sharma
Machhli Kalan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Manjit Singh, dceputy Director Balwant Singh,
Assistant Director Dr. Anu Chopra and Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Daljit
Singh Pardesi.
